Overview
In the worlds of politics, academia, and the beaches of Martha’s Vineyard, Talcott Garland is an Ivy League law professor whose quiet life is shattered when his father, Judge Oliver Garland, dies of an apparent heart attack. The nature of the judge’s death is questioned by Tal’s sister, Mariah, a former journalist and inveterate conspiracy theorist, who believes that the judge, a failed Black nominee to the Supreme Court, met with foul play.

Chapter One
After renowned judge Oliver Garland is found dead in his home, his three adult children—Addison, Mariah, and Tal—gather for the funeral. Shocked by her father's abrupt passing, Mariah begins questioning if foul play was involved.
Chapter Two
Two years after his shock announcement, Judge Garland contemplates his next career move. Discovering that another close to their family has been murdered, Mariah's suspicions around her father's demise grow further.
Chapter Three
Tal's paranoia intensifies following his mysterious run-in with Agent McDermott; Mariah's investigation into her father's death has her reminiscing on her career as a Pulitzer Award-winning journalist.
Chapter Four
Tal enlists a colleague's help to track Kimmer's whereabouts; furthering their investigation, Tal and Mariah look to an old friend of their father's for answers.
