Overview

It was the Sengoku-era, when the warlords usurped each other. There was a man whose soul was overtaken by the ways of tea and material greed, as he worked his way up toward greater power and status. His name was Sasuke Furuta, a subordinate warrior of Nobunaga Oda. With his world broadened by Nobunaga the Genius, and his spiritual insight learned from Senno Soueki the Master of Tea, Sasuke drove the road to Hyouge Mono. To live or not to live. Would You Die for a Teakettle!?

Furuta Sasuke, 34 year old vassal of Oda Nobunaga, is sent on a diplomatic mission to Shigisan Castle to negotiate with Matsunaga Hisahide, a general who betrayed Nobunaga and allied with the Mori Clan and Ikko-ikki. Nobunaga instructs Sasuke to offer Hisahide forgiveness for the betrayal in exchange for the Hiragumo teakettle, a highly-prized and artistic piece.

Fantasy of the Tea Room

Sasuke meets with his brother-in-law, Nakagawa Kiyohide, before his brother-in-law departs for war under his lord Araki Murashige. Later, word arrives that Murashige has rebelled against Nobunaga. Sasuke is ordered to go to his brother-in-law and persuade him to surrender.

Stairway to the Heavens

After being invited to take tea with renowned tea master Sen no Soeki, Sasuke is challenged about his acceptance of a prized tea bowl in in in payment for allowing an enemy of Nobunaga to escape. Soeki allows Sasuke to become his apprentice in exchange for the tea bowl. Following this, Sasuke learns of Nobunaga's ambitions beyond the shores of Japan.
