Overview
When her 80-year-old husband George dies, Helena asks her granddaughter to delve into the mystery surrounding George's friend Alfred's early demise. Alfred died in a WWII prison camp where both friends were imprisoned. The search for the truth unleashes an eruption of repressed emotions in three generations of the De Keyser family, gin distillers in Hasselt.

2007: While the elderly George Reeckmans is dying, his wife Helena begs him to reveal how his best friend, Alfred, died during World War II, a secret only he knows the truth of. However he dies, taking the knowledge into his grave. 1939: Two young friends, George and Alfred, vie for the attention of the beautiful Helena, the daughter of a local expert gin distiller.
